[Saba Sports News] The Philadelphia 76ers are aiming to bring in major star power this offseason while keeping much of their supporting cast intact.
Keith Pompey of the Philly Inquirer reported that the 76ers are “most likely” looking to re-sign three veterans: guard Kyle Lowry, swingman Kelly Oubre, and forward Nicolas Batum.
Pompey notes that the 76ers plan to pursue a max-salary free agent, limiting their flexibility to fill out the rest of the roster. Therefore, Lowry, Oubre, and Batum, who may not command high salaries on the open market, are likely to get new deals from Philly.
Oubre, the youngest at 28, had a strong first season in Philly, averaging 15.4 points and 5.0 rebounds per game, though he remains an inefficient No. 3 or No. 4 scorer. Lowry (38) and Batum (35) are older and may not attract much outside interest but proved their value to Philly, especially in the postseason, as reliable role players.
The 76ers have several other free agents to consider, including Tobias Harris and Buddy Hield. However, this report suggests those players are less likely to return. Philly needs to be strategic about their cap space, especially with the high-profile targets they have been linked to recently.
