[Saba Sports News] In preparation for next year’s Thomas & Uber Cup, the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) recently announced a significant move: opening national team training sessions to independent players. However, only independent players ranked within the world’s top 50 in singles or top 30 in doubles are eligible, and they can participate for two days per week. BAM believes that competitive training is key to player improvement. Integrating independent players with the national team not only supplements high-quality sparring partners for the national team but also provides independent players with a more systematic training environment, creating a mutually beneficial arrangement. We believe that the inclusion of top independent players can significantly enhance the training intensity for the national team, effectively providing regular high-level competition for national team players. This allows players to adapt to the pace of international tournaments during daily training, which is far more effective than training with ordinary sparring partners. Furthermore, when preparing for team events like the Thomas & Uber Cup, joint training allows the national team to familiarize themselves with the playing styles of different opponents in advance, reducing adaption costs during official competitions. This highlights the importance of joint training for integrating and enhancing the national team’s combat strength.
