[Saba Sports News] Ben Simmons is well aware of the criticism he faces on social media, and he’s not happy about it.
Speaking with Brian Lewis of the New York Post, the Brooklyn Nets forward responded to accusations that he’s “robbing” the team by collecting on his hefty contract despite limited playing time.
“People say I’m robbing, but when I got that contract, I was playing at a high level. Injuries happen, and it’s disrespectful to suggest otherwise,” Simmons stated.
Simmons, a former No. 1 overall pick, signed a $177 million extension in 2019 after two All-Star and All-Defensive seasons. But due to injury and a trade holdout, he’s appeared in just 58 games for the Nets, while earning over $100 million.
He continues to face criticism for failing to live up to his contract, with some questioning his commitment to the game.
