[Saba Sports News]According to French media reports, former Monaco captain and French international Wissam Ben Yedder is facing multiple legal troubles and will stand trial on December 27 in Nice for charges of psychological violence against his wife that resulted in more than eight days of complete incapacity for work. This case stems from a lawsuit filed by Ben Yedder’s wife in February of this year, and the couple began divorce proceedings in May 2023. Reports indicate that Ben Yedder’s wife had previously been protected and accused her husband of various forms of violence, including threats of physical violence, severe psychological violence, economic violence, insults, humiliation, and intimidation. On May 31 of this year, Ben Yedder was detained due to related accusations but was released without charges shortly thereafter. Although the Nice prosecutor’s office considered dropping the case, they ultimately decided to proceed with prosecution. The plaintiff’s lawyer believes this decision is normal while dropping the case would be unusual. Ben Yedder’s defense attorney stated that these accusations were made in the context of a contentious divorce process. They questioned why the prosecutor’s office overturned its previous decision to drop the case without new evidence. In addition to domestic violence charges, Ben Yedder will also stand trial next Tuesday for sexual assault while intoxicated in Nice.
