[Saba Sports News] A Nice court recently found French footballer Wissam Ben Yedder guilty of subjecting his wife to psychological violence. He was sentenced to a 150-day fine of €600 per day, totaling €90,000, and ordered to pay his wife over €60,000 in compensation – half for damages and half for legal costs. The verdict attracted significant public attention, after which Ben Yedder announced he would appeal. It is reported that the Nice court based its ruling on evidence including phone recordings, which showed Ben Yedder using threatening, derogatory, and insulting language towards his wife and cutting off her financial resources. The editor believes that regardless of the appeal’s outcome, Ben Yedder’s conviction for psychological violence is morally difficult to accept. Psychological violence can cause severe harm to the victim’s mental and psychological well-being, and Ben Yedder’s actions violate the respect and care that should exist between spouses. His appeal might be seen by some as a refusal to acknowledge his wrongdoing or an attempt to evade responsibility, which could further damage his public image.
