[Saba Sports News] Philadelphia 76ers guard Cameron Payne was arrested last month for refusing to reveal his identity to police. The incident occurred in Scottsdale, Arizona, on June 14 after an alleged argument with his girlfriend. Payne, despite being the one who called 911, was uncooperative when officers arrived.
According to a Scottsdale Police Department incident report obtained by TMZ, Payne and his girlfriend claimed their services were no longer needed upon the officers’ arrival, stating the argument never turned physical and had cooled off. When asked for identification to file a report, Payne refused to comply.
The report states that Payne argued with police, insisting his name was “Terry Johnson.” Officers, skeptical of the name, warned him of arrest if he didn’t provide his real identity. Payne eventually did give his real name but then retracted it, saying it was his fake name and asked the police to leave. He was ultimately arrested and charged with refusal to provide a truthful name and false report to law enforcement.
Payne, who previously played for the Phoenix Suns, was acquired by the 76ers in February. He averaged 7.4 points and 2.6 assists per game last season across stints with the Bucks and Sixers.
