[Saba Sports News] In a recent Champions League match, Real Madrid defeated Marseille 2-1 at home. However, during the match, Dani Carvajal was sent off with a red card for headbutting Gerónimo Rulli and may face a suspension of more than one match. Carvajal came on in the 5th minute to replace the injured Trent Alexander-Arnold. With the score tied at 1-1, Carvajal produced one of the ugliest moments of the Champions League return at the Bernabéu. During a tense confrontation, Carvajal clashed with opposition goalkeeper Rulli and headbutted him. The Argentine goalkeeper fell to the ground in pain, and after reviewing the incident with VAR, the referee promptly showed Carvajal a direct red card for violent conduct. According to Article 15.1 e) of the 2024 UEFA Disciplinary Regulations, “For assaulting another player or any person present, a suspension of three matches or a specific period shall be imposed.” Therefore, Carvajal may face a suspension of more than one match. In this situation, Xabi Alonso must find a temporary solution to compensate for the absence of both Carvajal and Alexander-Arnold. Ironically, the right-back position was initially considered the most secure for Real Madrid this season, with two top-tier players available. However, the club now faces a shortage in that very position.
