[Saba Sports News] A controversial call occurred during the mixed doubles match between Indonesia and Denmark in the Sudirman Cup group stage in 2025. After the game, Danish players were subject to online abuse. At the time, Danish players Jesper Toft and Amalie Magelund first took a set point at 21-20 with a return ball directly out of bounds. Through slow-motion replay, it was clear that the ball landed far outside the line, but the referee awarded the point to Denmark, allowing them to take the first set 22-20. This caused dissatisfaction among Indonesian players and the fans present. In response, Toft posted on IG, stating that he fully understands the controversy surrounding the disputed point at 21-20, which has sparked much discussion. It must be clarified: that shot was indeed out of bounds, but it was unexpected for the point to be awarded to us, as the referee made this decision. Mistakes in sports rulings are sometimes unavoidable. Winning a point in such a way is never pleasant, and it is unfair for Rivaldi Rivaldy and Gloria Emanuelle Widjaja as well as Indonesian fans. However, as players, we must continue playing according to the referee’s ruling, which is the reality on every field. What is truly regrettable is that after the match, there was an overwhelming amount of hate speech not only directed at me personally but even affecting my family. This clearly crosses the line, and any personal attacks on those I love are unacceptable. I hope we can meet again in a fairer environment next time.
