[Saba Sports News] Philadelphia 76ers center Joel Embiid on Friday fueled rumors of Paul George potentially joining the team.
During the ESPN pregame show for Game 4 of the NBA Finals between the Boston Celtics and Dallas Mavericks, Embiid and George appeared together. Aware of the 76ers’ reported interest in George, Embiid hinted at adding new talent to the team and seemed to side-eye George when he said it.
“Hopefully, this offseason we find a way to get better and add some pieces,” Embiid said with a sheepish smile.
George is expected to opt out of the final year of his contract and become a free agent this offseason. While a return to the Los Angeles Clippers is likely, several reports have linked the nine-time All-Star to the 76ers.
George might be using these rumors as leverage for a better deal with the Clippers, but Embiid’s interest in teaming up with him seems genuine.
George would fit well as a third star alongside Embiid and rising player Tyrese Maxey. Signing a significant player like George could elevate the 76ers to true contender status.
