[Saba Sports News] BWT Alpine F1 Team announced that current third driver Jack Doohan will be promoted to a full-time race driver for next season alongside Pierre Gasly, forming the team’s driver lineup for the 2025 season. Thus, the Australian becomes the first young driver in Alpine’s history to successfully “graduate” from its driver academy. Reports indicate that Jack Doohan is the son of five-time motorcycle 500cc champion Mick Doohan. In 2017, Jack Doohan joined Red Bull’s junior program; in 2021 he moved up from F3 to F2, achieving his best result as third in the championship last season. In 2022, Jack Doohan transitioned to Alpine’s junior program; in 2023 he became Alpine F1 Team’s reserve driver. This year, Jack Doohan has participated in multiple old car tests with the team and has experience driving F1 cars during practice sessions at Silverstone and Montreal. According to official F1 statistics, Jack Doohan will be the 777th driver in F1 history to participate in a race; some fans speculate he will use car number 77. Unfortunately for Jack Doohan, he cannot use number 77 because it is currently held by Valtteri Bottas of Alfa Romeo F1 Team. He can only change his number to 77 if Bottas retires for more than two years and if Jack Doohan wins the F1 World Championship.
