[Saba Sports News] Georges Niang is no fan of Ben Simmons.
Niang appeared on the latest episode of “Road Trippin’,” published on Tuesday. When asked if he had any beef with someone, Niang reluctantly named Simmons. Niang had signed a 2-year deal with the Philadelphia 76ers before the 2021-2022 season, partly due to the opportunity to play with Simmons, who could set him up for open shots.
However, Simmons held out that season citing mental health reasons, leaving Niang feeling betrayed. Niang recalled his frustration, saying, “I’m like, ‘what the f—?’ And then [Simmons] was walking around the facility, he’d be like ‘what’s up man?’ And that’s when I was like ‘f–k this dude. If I get an opportunity to play against this guy, I’m going to be an a–hole.’”
The situation was resolved when Simmons was traded to Brooklyn, but the resentment lingered. Niang’s frustration was evident when the 76ers played the Nets the following season. Niang, now in the second season of a three-year deal with the Cavaliers, still holds a grudge, while Simmons’ career has struggled since sitting out that season.
