[Saba Sports News] Less than seven months after returning to his home state, James Harden appears likely to stay put for now.
LA Clippers beat writer Tomer Azarly of ClutchPoints reported on Harden’s expected free-agent outcome. Since the NBA Finals ended on June 17, Harden and the Clippers have been free to negotiate a new deal. Azarly notes that it’s widely expected Harden will re-sign with the Clippers in free agency. Harden has enjoyed his time in Southern California, and it’s believed he will agree to a three-year deal, aligning with Kawhi Leonard’s new contract extension.
Harden, 34, joined the Clippers last November in a trade with the Philadelphia 76ers. Despite some inconsistency in his offensive game and the Clippers’ first-round exit due to Leonard’s injury, Harden remains a crucial asset. He averaged 16.6 points and 8.5 assists per game in L.A. last season with solid shooting splits of 43/38/88. His ability to handle the ball is vital for the Clippers alongside Leonard.
The bigger issue for the Clippers now is Paul George’s free agency. Harden may wait to re-sign until the team figures out their budget after resolving George’s situation. Currently, George seems increasingly likely to depart.
