[Saba Sports News] According to British media reports, FIFA will sell all tickets for the World Cup qualification play-off matches to be held in Mexico this month for less than $20, a sharp contrast to its controversial pricing for the final tournament tickets. The two play-off games are scheduled for March 27 and April 1 at World Cup stadiums near Guadalajara and Monterrey, and will decide two of the final six places for this summer’s event. In one match, Jamaica will face New Caledonia at the Akron Stadium, with the winner to play the Democratic Republic of the Congo five days later. In the other, Bolivia will take on Suriname at the BBVA Stadium, and the winner will meet Iraq. FIFA launched ticket sales for both matches on Tuesday morning, with all semi-final tickets priced at 200 Mexican pesos – approximately $11.30 – and all final tickets at 300 Mexican pesos, or around $17.50.
The editor believes that more affordable prices will help attract local fans and reward supporters from the six countries who travel all the way to Guadalajara or Monterrey for matches, rather than trying to maximize profits by exploiting their passion.
