[Saba Sports News] New York Knicks star Jalen Brunson is unhappy with the narrative that injuries were to blame for the team’s seven-game loss to the Indiana Pacers in the Eastern Conference semifinals. Brunson expressed frustration, saying it diminishes the team’s potential to have won the series regardless.
“I hate the narrative,” Brunson said on the “Roommates Show” podcast. “Honestly, that kind of pissed me off. Yeah, we didn’t have a full team, but I don’t want the narrative being, ‘Oh, they’re hurt so let’s give them a pass.’ No, we had chances to win that series and didn’t. We were winning with those injuries.”
Key players like OG Anunoby and Mitchell Robinson were limited or injured during the series, and Julius Randle missed the playoffs entirely. Despite these setbacks, the Knicks reached a Game 7 at home with a chance to advance to the Eastern Conference Finals.
Critics argue that the injuries are a result of coach Tom Thibodeau’s intense style, a perspective Brunson also disagrees with.
