[Saba Sports News] Dallas Mavericks coach Jason Kidd didn’t hold back after his team’s 114-113 loss to the Phoenix Suns on Friday.
Kidd was frustrated by the team’s slow start, as they fell behind by 10 points in the first quarter and trailed by 13 at halftime. He criticized the team’s lack of energy and called on the bench to step up.
“For whatever reason, we get off to a slow start. It’s got to be addressed. There’s got to be some energy. Somebody has to come with some f—ing energy. We’re f—ing flat. That’s where it starts,” Kidd said.
He also expressed frustration over relying on heavy minutes for Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving. “Our bench stinks right now. We need someone to f—ing contribute. It’s not fair to put it all on Luka and Ky this early in the season,” he added.
The Mavericks’ bench scored just nine points in the game. Spencer Dinwiddie took only two shots in 28 minutes, and Dwight Powell attempted one shot in 25 minutes. At 5-4, the Mavericks aren’t in crisis, but Kidd emphasized that the lack of support and energy from the bench needs addressing, especially with the season still young and injuries affecting the team.
