[Saba Sports News] Kenneth Jonassen, the veteran of Denmark’s men’s singles badminton, announced plans to step down as the head coach of the Danish national badminton team by the end of this year. Jonassen has coached the Danish national badminton team for 11 years, serving as head coach for 8 years, making him the longest-serving and most successful national team coach in Denmark. During his professional career, Jonassen stood out among his contemporaries in Denmark, having won two Danish National Badminton Championships and several international titles, although his overall achievements do not match those of Danish legend Peter Gade. As a coach, Jonassen played a key role in Viktor Axelsen’s development, guiding him from his youth. Ultimately, Axelsen lived up to expectations, winning two Olympic gold medals in men’s singles badminton. In an interview yesterday, Jonassen expressed that it was a great honor and privilege to serve as the head coach of the Danish national badminton team, and he thoroughly enjoyed his time coaching at Badminton Denmark. He believes it is time to pass the baton to new faces.
