The basketball legend made a noteworthy public appearance at Fanatics Fest in New York City over the weekend, where he met with Kevin Durant, Jay-Z, and others. Abdul-Jabbar spent Friday and Saturday signing autographs and posing for pictures with fans and returned on Sunday to participate in a panel with NBA commissioner Adam Silver and WNBA star Sabrina Ionescu. Video shows him arriving on stage with the help of a cane.
This is an encouraging sign, especially since Abdul-Jabbar was hospitalized about eight months ago after breaking his hip in a fall. Despite concerns due to his age (77) and height (7-foot-2), the 19-time NBA All-Star has maintained a positive attitude. His appearance at Fanatics Fest is further evidence that he is on the mend.
