[Saba Sports News] New York Knicks center Karl-Anthony Towns made a statement with his outfit at Sunday’s Subway Series finale between the Yankees and Mets.
Towns attended the game at Yankee Stadium, where he received a loud ovation after appearing on the Jumbotron. But it wasn’t just his presence that drew attention — it was the shirt he wore.
Towns’ shirt featured a well-known Knicks fan from a viral 2021 Sidetalk NYC video. In the clip, recorded after a double-overtime win over the Boston Celtics to open the 2021-22 season, the fan shouted “F–k Boston,” flashed an “L” sign on his forehead, and danced wildly — a moment that quickly became a Knicks fan rallying cry.
That very fan — mid-dance and taunt — was printed on Towns’ shirt, and Knicks fans both online and in the stadium took notice. The shirt was seen as a not-so-subtle jab at the Celtics, especially in the wake of New York’s recent playoff triumph.
The Knicks stunned Boston in the second round, winning the series in six games to reach their first Eastern Conference Finals in 24 years. Boston had been a heavy favorite and were widely expected to represent the East once again, but the Knicks flipped the narrative — even before Jayson Tatum’s season-ending Achilles injury.
