[Saba Sports News] The Los Angeles Lakers made a key move on Saturday, signing former Toronto Raptors big man Christian Koloko after losing Christian Wood to knee surgery, per Shams Charania of The Athletic.
Koloko, a former Arizona standout, averaged 3.1 points, 2.9 rebounds, and 1.0 block per game during the 2022-23 season with the Raptors. Although foul trouble was an issue, his potential was evident. He missed the entire 2023-24 season due to a serious blood clot issue, but after undergoing corrective surgery and being cleared to play, Koloko is ready for a fresh start.
With Wood sidelined, Koloko has a chance to step up as a backup to Anthony Davis. Learning from veterans like Davis and LeBron James could greatly benefit his development. In college, Koloko excelled in his junior year, averaging 12.6 points, 7.3 rebounds, and leading the Pac-12 with 2.8 blocks per game.
As the Lakers gear up for a tough Western Conference, Koloko’s defensive presence could be a valuable asset.
