Though his contract with Red Bull Racing runs until 2028, the Dutchman has branched out into other racing categories, including GT racing, and is set to compete in the Nürburgring 24 Hours. These moves have further fuelled speculation that he might leave Formula 1 ahead of schedule.
Amid widespread debate over Verstappen’s future, his rival Lando Norris shared his perspective. The McLaren driver believes that despite constant rumours suggesting Verstappen could walk away from the paddock over his frustration with the new rules, he will likely stay in the sport far longer than many expect.
Norris elaborated on his stance, pointing out that with four world championships to his name, Verstappen has already cemented his legacy and earned the right to make any career choice he wishes. Even so, he still retains strong motivation to continue competing in Formula 1. Norris stressed that if the Dutch star were to depart, it would be a huge loss for the entire sport, describing Verstappen as the most exceptional driver he has ever seen.
In my opinion, Norris’s remarks are not a direct denial of retirement rumours. Instead, based on his understanding of Verstappen’s personality and past statements, he expressed regret over the prospect of the Dutchman’s departure and indirectly voiced hope for him to stay. His viewpoint aligns with that of many senior figures within F1, who regard Verstappen’s so‑called “retirement threats” largely as a form of protest against regulatory changes, rather than a definitive final decision.
