[Saba Sports News] The Malaysian Badminton Association is currently inviting local badminton stars to join the “Path to Gold” program, which aims to support Malaysian athletes, improve their performance, and help Malaysia win its first Olympic gold medal at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. This program provides comprehensive services to selected athletes, including operational costs, training, monthly stipends, sports science, medical, and nutritional therapy. However, it requires athletes to maintain a ranking within the top 10 in the world. As the top male badminton player in Malaysia, Lee Zii Jia again declined the invitation, stating that he is still in the stage of recovering from his injury. He believes that at this time, resources should be prioritized for other athletes who are more qualified and better suited to compete. As an observer, I think each athlete has their own thoughts and choices, and we should respect his personal wishes. At the same time, this decision will not affect the progress of the “Path to Gold” program. The plan will continue to support other signed athletes and help Malaysian badminton achieve good results at the Olympics.
