[Saba Sports News] Recently, after a busy weekend, Barcelona striker Robert Lewandowski lit up the Empire State Building in New York to celebrate Polish Independence Day. Last Sunday night local time, the 37-year-old Polish striker scored a hat-trick against Celta Vigo. Initially, it was expected that he would join the Polish national team’s training camp in Warsaw to prepare for the World Cup qualifiers against the Netherlands and Malta. However, the Polish Football Association announced that he was granted permission to join the squad on Tuesday due to international travel. Subsequently, it was discovered that after returning to Barcelona from Vigo, Lewandowski’s next stop was New York, USA. The reason was that, as part of the Polish Independence Day celebrations, Lewandowski was invited to host the red-and-white light show at the Empire State Building. Lewandowski went with his wife, Anna, and was warmly received by Mateusz Sakowicz, the Consul General of the Republic of Poland in New York. Afterwards, Lewandowski planned to join the Polish national team’s training camp in Warsaw this Tuesday local time. At the ceremony, Lewandowski said: “I am very happy to be here; we are celebrating Independence Day. This is a light of hope for all Poles and a pride for our homeland. For me, it’s a wonderful experience. I am proud to be Polish.”
