[Saba Sports News] Following the recent news that Liverpool secured the Premier League title early, some Liverpool fans have created congratulatory ads, including one mocking Manchester United. Liverpool fans erected a billboard near Old Trafford to mock Manchester United. The billboard reads: “Manchester, only 37 miles away from England’s most successful football club.” This behavior by Liverpool fans reflects the culture of fan rivalry in football. In my view, Liverpool and Manchester United have deep historical rivalries, extending beyond the pitch into fan groups. Historically, there have been various instances of mutual ridicule between the two sets of fans, and this billboard incident is another manifestation of these long-standing grievances in a new historical context. For Manchester United, this is undoubtedly a stimulus and challenge. Given the team’s poor performance this season, seeing their rivals’ mockery should motivate them to improve their results in future matches in response to such provocation.
