[Saba Sports News] According to British media reports, the protest group “The 1958” announced plans to hold a march before Manchester United’s final game of the season against Aston Villa. The statement came on the 20th anniversary of the Glazer Family’s leveraged buyout of Manchester United and was named “Legacy of Destruction.” The statement read: May 2005 was one of the darkest days in Manchester United’s history. The Glazer family became the majority shareholder, triggering a forced buyout and completing the transaction on June 29, 2005. That moment marked the beginning of the end of the soul and community of our once great club, sacrificed on the altar of corporate greed. The club is burdened with over a billion pounds in debt, our fan base is divided and polarized, and our stadium has been neglected—all due to the greed and betrayal of the Glazer family. Hundreds of millions of pounds have been used to pay off debts, not paid by the Glazer family but by our club. Meanwhile, the Glazer family continues to receive dividends from the club regardless of how the team performs on the pitch. Old Trafford, once the “Dream Theatre,” has fallen into disrepair due to decades of neglect. They have taken everything. Lifelong loyal supporters are being driven away from the club they love, squeezed out by high prices and pushed aside. This is another blow to our football community.
