[Saba Sports News] Klay Thompson is excited to join the Dallas Mavericks and recently watched a video of the Mavs’ 2011 NBA Finals run.
Speaking at the Dirk Nowitzki Foundation Tennis Classic, via Abby Jones of DLLS Sports, Thompson praised the 2011 team for their resilience, beating talented squads like the Lakers, Thunder, and Miami Heat.
“It was so inspiring,” Thompson said. “I watched it to keep in mind why I came here—to uplift the city and try to win.”
Thompson, a four-time NBA champion with the Warriors, is motivated to help the Mavericks take the next step. After their 2023-24 Finals loss to the Celtics, Thompson believes he can contribute to another deep playoff run.
His elite three-point shooting should relieve pressure on stars Kyrie Irving and Luka Doncic, who often faced double-teams last season.
Thompson’s presence will stretch the floor and give the Mavs more offensive options as they aim for another championship push.
