[Saba Sports News] Malaysian mixed doubles player Chen Tang Jie recently won the mixed doubles championship at the Australian Open Badminton. However, to everyone’s surprise, he was awarded the men’s singles gold medal instead. He then posted on social media, asking India’s men’s singles player Lakshya Sen: “Does this mean my mixed doubles gold is with you?” It seems the organizers at the Australian Open mixed up the gold medals for Lakshya Sen’s men’s singles and Chen’s mixed doubles events. Chen Tang Jie is an active member of Malaysia’s national badminton team, excelling in mixed doubles and team events. In his early years, he helped Malaysia’s team achieve the runner-up position in the World Junior Badminton Championships mixed team event, also earning a mixed doubles bronze. He has since won multiple international mixed doubles titles and helped Malaysia secure a bronze in the Sudirman Cup mixed team event and a silver in the Southeast Asian Games men’s team event. Together with his partner, he won the World Championship mixed doubles title, making history as Malaysia’s first-ever World Championship gold in mixed doubles. He has also been nominated for the BWF’s Most Improved Player of the Year award and has become a key figure in Malaysian badminton.
