[Saba Sports News] The Philadelphia 76ers are facing scrutiny from the NBA over Joel Embiid’s playing status.
According to ESPN’s Shams Charania, the league is likely to investigate the 76ers regarding Embiid’s absence from the entire preseason and the first three regular-season games, which the team has attributed to left knee injury management.
This investigation appears to focus on whether the team is using load management, as the NBA believes Embiid might be healthy enough to play. The league also noted that Embiid was fit enough to compete in the Paris Olympics just over two months ago.
Earlier this month, Embiid publicly stated he likely won’t play in back-to-back games due to his history of knee injuries, a stance that makes sense for the 76ers but likely doesn’t sit well with the NBA.
The 30-year-old center played only 39 games last season after a left meniscus tear required surgery. Injuries have hampered his last three playoff runs, and both Embiid and the 76ers are aiming to avoid a repeat this season.
