[Saba Sports News] The Brooklyn Nets are nearing a decision on their next head coach, with three candidates emerging as frontrunners for the role, reports Shams Charania of The Athletic.
The finalists include former Milwaukee Bucks coach Mike Budenholzer, Sacramento Kings associate head coach Jordi Fernandez, and Phoenix Suns associate head coach Kevin Young. These candidates are expected to have in-person interviews with owner Joe Tsai as the selection process enters its concluding phase.
While interim coach Kevin Ollie was considered, he did not make the final cut of candidates.
Of the three, Budenholzer is the most notable, having previously led the Bucks to an NBA championship in 2021 and earning NBA Coach of the Year honors twice. His extensive experience and a career record of 484-317 make him a standout choice. On the other hand, Fernandez and Young, both respected in their roles as assistant coaches, have yet to take on head coaching duties.
The Nets, who dismissed Jacque Vaughn on February 19, have been navigating a challenging season with a record of 32-49 under Ollie’s interim leadership. By advancing their coaching search now, the Nets aim to set the foundation for future success despite the current season’s struggles.
