Sports News] The Premier League has officially announced that Nottingham Forest
has been deducted 4 points due to their violation of the league’s profitability
and sustainability rules. Nottingham Forest has admitted to the breach but
argued that there were compelling reasons for selling Brennan Johnson. Last
summer, the club received a £30 million offer from Brentford, but the player
was unwilling to transfer. Forest believed that waiting until the PSR deadline
of June 30 to sell would generate more profit. Eventually, Brennan Johnson
joined Tottenham for a transfer fee of £47.5 million. However, the independent
committee did not accept this reasoning. According to the Premier League
regulations, clubs cannot incur losses exceeding £105 million within a
three-year period. Nottingham Forest’s allowed loss is only £61 million due to
their two-year participation in the English Championship. Previously, Everton
also violated the Premier League’s Profitability and Sustainability Rules (PSR)
and initially faced a deduction of 10 points, which was later reduced to 6
points after an appeal. This deduction serves as a consequence for Nottingham
Forest’s financial violation and emphasizes the league’s commitment to
maintaining financial stability and fair play among its member clubs.
