[Saba Sports News] Major changes are already underway for the Denver Nuggets, with more likely on the horizon this offseason — but Michael Porter Jr. might not be part of those moves.
Though Porter has long been the subject of trade speculation, his spot on the roster may be secure for an unusual reason. According to Jake Fischer of ‘The Stein Line’, Nuggets ownership, led by Stan and Josh Kroenke, reportedly has a strong personal connection to Porter due to his ties to Missouri.
Porter played college ball at Mizzou, the same school both Kroenkes attended, and sources say ownership has a hard time imagining approving any trade involving him.
Porter had been seen as a likely candidate in potential roster shakeups, even acknowledging the possibility before this season began. With Jamal Murray and Aaron Gordon both locked into pricey long-term deals, moving Porter seemed logical — until his Missouri connection came into play.
On the court, Porter is enjoying a strong year, averaging 18.1 points per game while shooting 39.3% from three. He’s firmly cemented as Denver’s third scoring option, but even that hasn’t shielded the team from making bold structural changes, with more expected soon.
