[Saba Sports News] Patrick Ewing is officially rejoining the New York Knicks in an ambassador role.
The Knicks announced Friday that Ewing will take on the newly created position of “basketball ambassador,” assisting with both basketball and business operations.
“As I said when my number 33 jersey went up to the MSG rafters, I will always be a Knick and a New Yorker. I’m excited to start this new role and be officially back with the organization I love,” Ewing said. “The Garden has always been home, and I look forward to working with Leon Rose, Coach Thibodeau, the team, and everyone else who makes this place special.”
Although Ewing has always been synonymous with the Knicks, he hasn’t held an official position with the team since his retirement. Following a long career as an NBA assistant coach, he served as head coach at Georgetown for six years before being let go last year.
Ewing’s return to the Knicks adds to the excitement for the upcoming season. The team is seen as a strong contender, especially after this week’s big acquisition of Karl-Anthony Towns.
