[Saba Sports News] One of the few bright spots for the New Orleans Pelicans this season has been ruled out for the year.
Trey Murphy III has been diagnosed with a season-ending torn labrum in his right shoulder, per NBA insider Shams Charania. The fourth-year swingman suffered the injury in the opening minute of Monday’s game against the Detroit Pistons at Smoothie King Center in New Orleans.
Murphy went down while battling for a loose ball with Pistons wing Ausar Thompson, appearing to injure his shoulder while trying to brace his fall.
The injury cuts short what had been a breakout 2024-25 campaign for Murphy. The Virginia product was averaging a career-high 21.6 points, nearly seven points more than last season, along with 5.2 rebounds and 3.6 assists per gamethrough 52 contests.
Murphy becomes the second Pelicans star to suffer a season-ending injury this year, adding to New Orleans’ growing list of setbacks.
