[Saba Sports News] According to recent media reports, Volkswagen has been facing an economic crisis, leading to rumors that its German factories may close, potentially resulting in the loss of up to 30,000 jobs. This situation has significantly impacted Audi’s investment in F1, as industry insiders believe it is difficult to justify large-scale development expenditures in F1 given the parent company’s economic issues. Qatar is the third-largest shareholder of the Volkswagen Group, holding a 17% stake and two seats on the supervisory board. Qatar has indicated that they are willing to invest up to €1 billion in Audi’s F1 project if the conditions are right and may appear as a sponsor on the Sauber team’s livery. As an important investment power in the Middle East, Qatar has a strong interest in the sports industry. F1, being a top-tier racing event globally, holds immense commercial value and influence. By acquiring ownership of the Audi Sauber team, Qatar could further enhance its position on the international sports stage.
