[Saba Sports News] Rohit Sharma’s sacking by the Mumbai Indians (MI) as their captain stirred a storm in the cricketing world.
Mumbai Indians traded Hardik Pandya from Gujarat Titans (GT), handing over the leadership reins to him and bringing an end to Rohit’s successful captaincy tenure ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024.
As MI axed the joint-most successful IPL skipper, reports of him leaving the team started doing the rounds, signaling a rift between them. Reportedly, senior MI players Jasprit Bumrah and Suryakumar Yadav were left displeased from the franchise’s decision.
However, a Mumbai Indians official has refuted all such claims, stating that Rohit, including other players, will stay with the side, ending all the hearsay around the trade.
“Rohit is not going anywhere, nor will any player,” a Mumbai Indians official said as quoted to Cricbuzz.
It was also confirmed that Rohit was consulted before MI announced Pandya as their new captain.
“The news reports are totally fake and false.
No MI player will be leaving us, nor will be traded by us.
“Every
player was taken into confidence before the decision was made. Rohit
too was informed, and he is very much part of the decision-making
process,” the official added.
Chennai Super Kings (CSK) CEO Kasi Viswanathan too put the trade rumours to rest after it was reported the the MS Dhoni-led side is in talks with MI for a possible exchange of players.
“We don’t trade players as a principle and we also don’t have players to
trade with Mumbai Indians. We have not approached them and we don’t
intend to either.”
Notably, the trading window will remain open till 30 days to the start of the IPL 2024.
