[Saba Sports News] Rohit Sharma delivered a stellar performance in the Champions Trophy 2025 final, propelling India to a historic win over New Zealand.
The Men in Blue secured the title with a four-wicket victory on Sunday, March 9, at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, marking back-to-back ICC triumphs after their T20 World Cup win in 2024.
After restricting New Zealand to 251/7, India chased down the target with an over to spare. Rohit was named Player of the Match for his explosive 76 off 83 balls, which included seven fours and three sixes.
His knock provided India with a strong start, ensuring the required run-rate remained within reach despite a few middle-order hiccups. Contributions from Shreyas Iyer (48), KL Rahul (34*), and Shubman Gill (31) helped seal the victory.
Post-match celebrations saw Rohit recreating his iconic ‘stump-planting’ moment, reminiscent of his T20 World Cup celebration in Barbados. While Rohit had struggled for big scores earlier in the tournament, he rose to the occasion in the final, smashing a 41-ball half-century to lead India to glory.
With the Champions Trophy secured, India’s focus now shifts to a five-match Test series against England in June. Before that, players will gear up for the Indian Premier League (IPL), which kicks off on March 22.
