[Saba Sports News] F1 CEO Stefano Domenicali revealed in an exclusive interview with Motorsport that he will meet with Rwandan representatives at the end of September to discuss the East African country’s plans to host an F1 Grand Prix. The Rwandan event planning has reportedly reached an advanced stage, warranting further discussions. Africa has not hosted an F1 Grand Prix since 1993. During this year’s Monaco F1 Grand Prix, representatives from the Rwanda Development Board flew to Monte Carlo to meet with FIA executives. Besides Rwanda, Thailand is also a potential F1 Grand Prix host. The Thai government is actively pursuing the possibility of hosting an F1 race. After the Singapore F1 Grand Prix at the end of September, Domenicali will visit Thailand for an inspection. Initially, the Thai government proposed holding a street race in Bangkok. However, the current situation might differ, and Thailand may have some more attractive plans. Some media outlets speculate that the FIA’s annual meeting and awards ceremony in December might be held in Kigali, Rwanda’s capital. At that time, new F1 Grand Prix plans might be announced.
