[Saba Sports News] Oklahoma City Thunder star Shai Gilgeous-Alexander offered an explanation for his unusual reaction following the team’s overtime loss on Friday.
The Thunder dropped Game 3 of their Western Conference semifinal series to the Denver Nuggets, 113-104, at Ball Arena.
As Gilgeous-Alexander walked off the court after the defeat, cameras caught him smiling—an image that raised eyebrows among some fans and critics.
After the game, Gilgeous-Alexander clarified the moment, saying his smile was a response to trash talk from Denver fans.
“Some fans were taunting me,” he said. “I know how the game goes. I know how life is. It’s easy to taunt when you’re up. I don’t ever want to show them that I’m defeated or mad or anything like that. Nothing’s written. The series is not over. We have a lot to be optimistic about.”
While some questioned the optics of smiling after a tough loss—especially with OKC now trailing 2-1 in the series—Gilgeous-Alexander emphasized confidence and composure over frustration.
The Thunder guard had a rough night by his standards, finishing with 18 points, 13 rebounds, and 7 assists, but shooting just 7-of-22 from the field and 1-of-6 from beyond the arc.
