[Saba Sports News] Kevin Durant’s next NBA chapter might just lead him to the Alamo City.
According to reports, the San Antonio Spurs are quietly surfacing as a potential dark-horse suitor for the Phoenix Suns star this offseason. Siegel reports that league chatter has already linked the Spurs to Durant, with guard Devin Vassell named as a possible trade chip.
Durant, 36, has one guaranteed year left on his contract, and with the Suns sitting at 11th in the West, a summer trade appears increasingly likely. San Antonio was among the six teams tied to Durant earlier this month, though their odds seemed slimmer after going all-in on De’Aaron Fox at the trade deadline.
But the Spurs may not be done wheeling and dealing. With Victor Wembanyama recovering well from a recent health scare and Fox locked in as their star guard, San Antonio is reportedly looking to keep the momentum going this summer. Beyond Vassell (24), the Spurs have an arsenal of young assets—Keldon Johnson (25), Jeremy Sochan (21), and rookie Stephon Castle (20)—plus nearly all their first-round picks through 2031 (aside from 2027).
Durant remains elite despite the Suns’ struggles, averaging 26.9 points, 6.0 rebounds, and 4.3 assists per game. His Bird rights also enhance his trade appeal, giving any acquiring team more flexibility.
And while another team in Texas has recently been linked to Durant, the Spurs are starting to look like a more realistic—if surprising—landing spot.
