[Saba Sports News] India batter Shubman Gill finally delivered the goods for his team, overcoming an extended lean patch that was bugging him in Test cricket for the last 11 months.
Shubman was under tremendous pressure ahead of the second innings in the ongoing Hyderabad Test versus England, having amassed just 173 runs in his last nine innings.
Adding to it, an Indian Express report has stated that the team management had given an ultimatum to their Test No.3, asking him to perform or perish.
As reported, Shubman had even informed one of his family members that he will go back to the domestic circuit to play the Ranji Trophy tie between Punjab and Gujarat, commencing on February 9.
“I will go and play the Ranji Trophy match against Gujarat in Mohali,” Shubman said as quoted to one of his family members, as reported by The Indian Express.
With his spot on the line, the 24-year-old roared back to form, smashing a century, his third in the Test format, and arguably his best. He got dismissed after scoring 104 runs.
Shubman’s century-knock came at a time when India needed him to perform. Coming to bat at 30/2, he formed crucial partnerships with Shreyas Iyer and Axar Patel, giving India a lead of 398 runs.
