[Saba Sports News] Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr made a notable change to the starting lineup on Friday night, benching veteran forward Draymond Green in favor of Jonathan Kuminga. The decision marks a shift in approach and appears to be a long-term adjustment.
Green, known for his fiery personality, embraced the change with grace. “Of course, I’m OK with it,” Green told ESPN. “I’ve been one of JK’s biggest supporters since he got here. If he has an opportunity to start, I’m not going to be hypocritical. He’s earned it.”
Kuminga scored 13 points in the Warriors’ 107-90 loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves, while Green contributed 10 points, nine rebounds, and six assists in 26 minutes off the bench. Despite the loss, Green emphasized the importance of putting the team first.
“I don’t see it as a demotion,” Green said. “I’m a starter in the NBA—I know that. But if this helps the team win, I’m all for it. I hate losing, and I care deeply about this organization. If Kuminga’s the future, we’ve got to give him that chance.”
Kerr confirmed that Kuminga will remain in the starting lineup for now, signaling a potential turning point for the Warriors’ rotation.
