[Saba Sports News] The Phoenix Suns are bringing a touch of 1990s NBA nostalgia to their team.
Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN reported that the Suns are hiring Brent Barry as an assistant coach. Barry, 52, previously spent six seasons as an executive with the San Antonio Spurs.
Barry had a notable playing career from 1995-2009, winning the Slam Dunk Contest in 1996 and earning two NBA titles with the Spurs in 2005 and 2007. He is also familiar with new Suns head coach Mike Budenholzer, who was an assistant with the Spurs during Barry’s tenure.
A career 40.5% three-point shooter, Barry transitioned to an analyst role with TNT after retiring and later gained experience as an NBA executive. Now, he will join Budenholzer and the Suns as an assistant coach next season.
