[Saba Sports News] On the morning of March 25, the Chinese badminton team’s singles and doubles groups carried out mountain-climbing fitness training at Badachu Park and Xiangshan (Fragrant Hills) Park in Beijing, respectively. During the session, mixed doubles player Jiang Zhenbang posted a clear lead — his first ascent took 19 minutes, while other players took around 20 minutes. Several young players also took part in this mountain training, including men’s doubles champions at last Sunday’s Orléans Masters in France, Hu Keyuan and Lin Xiangyi; despite jet lag they enjoyed the session. World champion Liu Shengshu said she hopes to use the two to three weeks of closed training to adjust her condition. Liu also revealed that the team identified some issues at the All England Open Badminton Championships, so they have placed special emphasis on fitness training in hopes those problems will not recur at the Badminton Asia Championships.
The editor believes that organizing mountain-climbing training is a traditional and effective way for the Chinese badminton team to build fitness and mental toughness; it has continued to be used in recent preparations and is highly valued by both coaches and players.
