[Saba Sports News] The Minnesota Timberwolves recently secured a spot in the Western Conference Finals with a Game 5 win over the Golden State Warriors, continuing an impressive playoff run.
Julius Randle played a key role once again, shaking off past postseason struggles to become a true No. 2 option alongside Anthony Edwards.
The Timberwolves now turn their focus to the Oklahoma City Thunder, who advanced after a dramatic Game 7 win over the defending champion Denver Nuggets.
Ahead of Game 1, Randle offered a candid reflection on what it means to still be competing at this stage of the playoffs.
“It’s really a grind. You see guys, they’re already on their second vacation or starting to train… It’s just cool to be one of the last four teams playing basketball,” Randle told ESPN’s Dave McMenamin.
For much of his career, Randle’s playoff legacy was defined by a disappointing 2021 first-round series against the Atlanta Hawks when he was with the New York Knicks.
This postseason, however, he’s flipped the script—routinely exploiting mismatches and giving opposing defenses fits whenever they focus too heavily on Edwards.
Minnesota will now face the top-ranked defense in the NBA in Oklahoma City, and the pressure will mount on Randle to maintain his high level of play.
With the Thunder likely to throw everything they’ve got at Edwards, Randle’s ability to step up could be the difference between a deep run and the end of the road.
So far, he’s shown he’s ready for the moment. And if he can deliver for eight more games, the Timberwolves may be celebrating their first NBA championship.
Game 1 tips off Tuesday at 8:30 PM ET in Oklahoma City, broadcast nationally on ESPN.
