[Saba Sports News] According to US media reports, the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA) plans to raise train fares between downtown Boston and Gillette Stadium to nearly four times the usual price during the 2026 FIFA World Cup. As stated on the MBTA website, the agency typically charges $20 per person for round-trip tickets from train stations in downtown Boston during special events such as NFL games for the New England Patriots, MLS matches for the New England Revolution, or concerts. However, fans attending the warm-up match between France and Brazil at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough on Thursday found that fares had increased by 50% to $30 per person, with no discounted options available. Ticket purchasing rules indicate that children under 11 are also required to hold valid tickets. Yet even Thursday’s fare will more than double during this summer’s World Cup, when the price will reach nearly four times the regular rate charged to NFL and MLS fans.
The editor believes that this is yet another exploitation of loyal fans who work hard and attend in person to support their national teams. Those who have already spent a large sum on match tickets now have to pay even more.
