[Saba Sports News] The Philadelphia 76ers held a team meeting after their fourth consecutive loss on Monday night, during which Tyrese Maxey reportedly addressed Joel Embiid directly.
According to ESPN’s Shams Charania, veteran guard Kyle Lowry organized the meeting following the Sixers’ 106-89 defeat to the Miami Heat at Kaseya Center. The session included players and coaches holding one another accountable for the team’s disappointing 2-11 start.
During the meeting, Maxey called out Embiid for consistently being late to team activities this season, noting that his tardiness has negatively affected the locker room atmosphere. Despite their close friendship, Maxey felt compelled to address what he described as “the elephant in the room.” Embiid was reportedly receptive to the feedback.
“Maxey loves Big Fella,” a source told ESPN, “but he felt it was necessary to say something.”
Sixers players also told head coach Nick Nurse they want to be coached more rigorously, while the coaching staff emphasized the need for greater attention to detail during practices. Embiid, while accepting the criticism, admitted to feeling confused at times about the team’s on-court strategies, per Charania.
In the loss to the Heat, Embiid managed 11 points and 8 rebounds in 31 minutes, despite being listed as doubtful due to an illness. Maxey, meanwhile, has been sidelined since Nov. 7 with a hamstring injury, adding to the Sixers’ ongoing health challenges.
With key players like Paul George still returning to full fitness, the team has also faced off-court distractions, further complicating their rocky start. The hope is that Monday night’s meeting can help set a clearer path forward for the struggling 76ers.
