[Saba Sports News] During the Formula 1 Italian Grand Prix qualifying session at the Monza circuit, Red Bull driver Max Verstappen successfully secured pole position. Simultaneously, officials confirmed that Verstappen also set a new record. Verstappen earned the 45th pole position of his career with an ultra-fast lap time of 1:18.792, setting a new lap record for the Monza circuit! This lap also stands as the fastest average speed lap in F1 history, at 264.68 km/h! This record was previously held by Lewis Hamilton. Regarding this, Verstappen said: “I mean, it also benefits from the new asphalt surface, different kerbs, and the track overall is faster. I think if you put the 2020 Mercedes car here, the lap time would definitely be faster.” He joked: “Especially if I were driving that car. Then we could go even faster.” Red Bull Team Principal Laurent Mekies, speaking about Verstappen’s pole position feat, expressed great delight that the team has regained competitiveness. Mekies said: “We never felt pole position was a given. The good news this weekend is that we are indeed closer to fighting for pole – after all, in the previous few races, we weren’t able to be part of that fight, so it feels great to sense we have a chance to fight for pole.”
