[Saba Sports News] Recently, the BWF World Rankings for Week 39 were officially released. In men’s singles, the TOP4 rankings remain unchanged: Shi Yuqi, Anders Antonsen, Kunlavut Vitidsarn, and Li Shifeng. Notably, the most significant impact was on Danish star Viktor Axelsen. While he reached the semi-finals at last year’s China Masters, this year he was eliminated in the second round, causing his ranking to plummet by 6 places. He was just overtaken by Canada’s young player Victor Lai, who rose 4 places. In Week 39, Lai also officially became Canadian number one. Currently, Axelsen’s world ranking has dropped to 31st. Consequently, Axelsen might not secure a seeded spot for the World Championships, making his path in upcoming tournaments particularly tough, as he could face other seeded players as early as the first round. This certainly adds a lot of uncertainty to the men’s singles field! In competitive sports, especially high-intensity disciplines like badminton, once a decline sets in, it’s very difficult to climb back up. After all, being in his thirties, a badminton player’s physical recovery capacity inevitably isn’t what it used to be. If he can find new training methods or adjust his physical condition optimally, perhaps he can still return to the top.
