[Saba Sports News] The tire plan for the 2024 F1
Shanghai Grand Prix has been released. Pirelli, the sole supplier of F1 tires,
has provided the tire compound selection in advance, which includes the C2, C3,
and C4 compounds. F1 tires can be grouped into two categories: rain tires and
dry tires (slick tires). Rain tires are further divided into wet tires and full
rain tires, which are used based on the water accumulation on the track. Wet
tires are marked in green, while full rain tires are marked in blue. Dry tires,
on the other hand, come in five different compounds, ranging from C1 to C5. The
higher the number, the softer the tire, providing better grip but wearing out
faster. For each race, Pirelli selects three tire compounds from the available
range based on specific track conditions. These compounds are marked with red,
yellow, and white indicators to denote their relative softness and hardness.
Red indicates a soft tire, yellow represents a medium tire, and white signifies
a hard tire. Pirelli provides each driver with a total of 20 sets of tires for
the race, including 7 sets of wet tires and 13 sets of dry tires. Out of the 13
sets of dry tires, three sets are designated by the competition, while the
remaining 10 sets can be freely chosen by the teams from Pirelli based on their
race strategies. Fans have noted that the Shanghai track has been recently
resurfaced with asphalt, and it is expected that the soft C4 tires will be the
preferred choice. It is estimated that most teams will adopt a three-stop
strategy for the race.
