[Saba Sports News] Delhi Capitals (DC) and Indian fans have something to cheer about as their star player Rishabh Pant is set to make a remarkable comeback to cricket after a 14-month absence due to a severe road accident.
Pant, who sustained multiple injuries in a road incident on December 30, 2022, underwent a challenging recovery journey, supported by the medical yeam of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and the staff at the National Cricket Academy (NCA).
Declared ‘fit’ by the NCA, Pant is eagerly looking forward to leading his team in the upcoming season of the Indian Premier League (IPL), commencing on March 22. Pant will make his competitive cricket return after an arduous hhiatus since his road accident, facing Punjab Kings on March 23 at Mullanpur.
Expressing his anticipation for the upcoming season, the 26-year-old Pant conveyed a mix of excitement and nerves, likening the experience to a debut. He expressed profound gratitude to his supporters, acknowledging the unwavering backing from fans, the BCCI, and the NCA, crediting their support for his remarkable recovery.
“I’m excited and nervous at the same time. It feels like I’m going to make my debut again. To be able to play cricket again after everything I’ve been through is nothing short of a miracle. I’m grateful to all my well-wishers and fans, and most importantly, the BCCI and staff at NCA. All their love and support continues to give me immense strength,” said Pant as quoted.
“I’m excited to return to Delhi Capitals & the IPL – a tournament I enjoy so much. Our team owners and support staff have been by my side throughout with their full support, guidance and co-operation at every step, for which I am deeply grateful. I can’t wait to re-unite with my DC family and play in front of the fans again,” he added.
Reflecting on his return to the IPL, the Delhi-born cricketer described the feeling as “amazing” and emphasized the importance of enjoying the game without putting undue pressure on himself.
“Amazing feeling. This was the thing we were waiting for. It’s been so long. I think you can still cope with a layoff of three to six months. But when it goes beyond that, it starts taking a toll. I just want to go out there and play and have fun. Not thinking about the future too much, because (then) you put too much pressure on yourself. Looking forward to each day as it comes,” shared Pant.
In a heartfelt revelation, Pant shared how his spirituality helped him cope during his painful journey of recovery. Grateful for escaping more severe consequences, Pant acknowledged the guiding presence he believes has watched over him.
“You become more disciplined if you are spiritual. It’s a personal choice. It helped me concentrate on myself. When my accident happened, I felt something spiritual saved me. With the kind of accident I had, I only got my knee injured but I can’t even imagine how much worse it could have been. Doctors even spoke to me about amputation. I always thought about God. This has given a different view altogether. I know someone is watching over me,” he concluded.
