[Saba Sports News] The Philadelphia 76ers, facing recent struggles with four losses in their last five games, might have to continue without star center Joel Embiid for an extended period. ESPN’s Ramona Shelburne, speaking on “The Woj Pod,” revealed concerning details about Embiid’s knee injury, which he’s currently battling.
According to Shelburne, this injury is the same as the one Embiid suffered during last year’s playoffs, typically requiring a four-to-six-week recovery.
Embiid, the reigning league MVP, has missed the last two games due to swelling and inflammation in his left knee. He experienced similar issues in the previous playoffs, missing games due to an LCL sprain in his right knee. At 29 years old and with a history of lower-body injuries, the 7-foot, 280-pound Embiid’s health is crucial for the 76ers.
With nearly half the regular season still remaining and the 76ers at a 23-13 record, the team might consider keeping Embiid out of play until he’s fully recovered, despite the potential impact on his individual accolades.
